The World Kitchen was founded by Portuguese Catarina Bettencourt and Danish Anna Klitgaard back in 2016. We met whilst doing a MA in Culture, Communication and Globalisation (Marketing and Consumption) at Aalborg University (AAU) and as we both had a great appetite for and interest in food and communities, we decided to try and turn theory and research into practice.
A quick cup of coffee with the management of Folkekirkens Hus late summer 2016 helped realise the dream. From the cup of coffee and the initial presentation of our idea, we had three weeks to prepare, find ambassadors and sell 150 tickets for the first World Kitchen ft. Syria. It was busy times, but the first event was sold out and a huge success.
Since Syria, 22 teams of ambassadors have had a chance to represent their countries in either The World Kitchen, The Conflict Kitchen or The Crisis Kitchen. Each team has had to work around the three pillars supporting the kitchen concepts - namely: People meetings, food and knowledge-sharing. Each team has transformed their event into something unique, and their hard work has benefitted the 2700 guests, who has visited the kitchens so far. Through the events, Aalborg's "new" and "old" inhabitants get a chance to meet, greet and eat, and through the events the ambassadors get a chance to show their skills and resources, We extend a big THANK YOU to all involved for making the evenings into the very special occassions they are and for offering a piece of yourselves to curious strangers!
A BIG "THANK YOU" TO:
Folkekirkens Hus for housing us again and again and believing in us, Dean Niels Christian Koppelgaard and Budolfi Church for moral and economic support, volunteers from Folkekirkens Hus and our own - especially Ole and Birthe - for your always helping hands, WORLD! and friends for being guests again and again and last, but not least our ambassadors. The World Kitchen would not exist without you! THANK YOU!
